Sometimes life takes you in a direction you never expected.
Two years ago today, I was made redundant following a difficult period in my professional life, during which I had raised concerns in the workplace.
It wasn't how I imagined that chapter of my career would end.
Having spent many years working in commercial contracts, compliance, employment matters and operational management, I had always taken pride in my professional integrity and the way I approached my work.
Finding myself on the other side of a difficult workplace situation gave me a different perspective.
Not just on processes and procedures, but on the people affected by them.
Turning experience into something positive
When I established GR Ace Legal, I wanted to create a service that reflected both my professional experience and my personal values.
I wanted to offer practical, straightforward support to individuals and businesses without unnecessary complexity or jargon.
But equally importantly, I wanted people to feel listened to, understood and supported.
Because behind every contract, workplace concern or compliance issue, there are people making decisions, managing risks and sometimes facing considerable uncertainty.
That human element matters.
Looking back, and moving forward
Over the past two years, I've had the opportunity to support individuals through challenging employment situations, assist businesses with commercial matters and build relationships with clients who value a practical, personal approach.
Last week, I also signed an exciting new commercial agreement, marking another important step in the development of Grace Legal.
It was a particularly meaningful moment, coming almost exactly two years after a very different professional experience.
Of course, building a business hasn't always been straightforward. There have been challenges, uncertainties and plenty of learning along the way.
But there has also been a real sense of purpose.
What hasn't changed
If there's one thing I've carried with me throughout my career, it's the belief that professionalism and compassion should never be mutually exclusive.
You can be commercially minded while treating people fairly.
You can challenge a decision while remaining respectful.
And you can provide clear, practical advice without losing sight of the person behind the issue.
Those principles continue to shape the way I work today.
Two years ago, I couldn't have predicted where this journey would take me.
Today, I'm proud of what I've built, grateful for the opportunities and relationships that have developed, and excited about what lies ahead.
Sometimes the most meaningful progress is the progress you never planned.
